Cast like the dock is a runway

Face water. Equip the rod, not the sniper. Left Click sends the lure. If the bobber vanishes into a house, a boat cabin, or another avatar, you wasted the throw. Recast. Mobile players should park the joystick so the character faces the horizon, then tap the action button once — mash tapping plants five lures in the planks.

Bite, reel, land

When the bite hits, keep the rod equipped and finish the reel. The creature will flop onto whatever surface you are standing on: wooden pier, boat deck, or the odd green grid island. Landing on a roof after a whale launch still counts if the body does not despawn in water.

If the line snaps, wait the short recovery, swap lure if needed, and recast. Spamming Left Click through the snap window is how people think the controls are broken.

Lure is the real catch filter

The studio sells lures for cash. Matching the lure to the pool matters more than the color of your hat. Use the lure tier list as the shopping list:

• Free or starter lure: common dock fish, early cash, First Catch badge
• Mid lure: sharks and denser ocean spawns
• Boss-style lure: Kraken and later health-bar creatures

Golden Rod does not change which fish bite. The gamepass description says ordinary hooked fish become golden and sell for 2x, bosses excluded, no change to rarity, catch chance, or weight. Buy it for money, not for Myth Confirmed.

What you can catch (verified from the live experience)

Public thumbnails and badges confirm more than a single bass:

• Ordinary dock fish, including an orange clawed specimen that fights back on the line
• Sharks that leave the water and require a gun
• Kraken (Kraken Slayer badge, high award rate)
• Giant Whale with a 2500 HP bar
• Legend and myth tiers (Stuff of Legends, Myth Confirmed — both rare)
• Cooked variants after you interact with a camp (Camp Cook)

The fish tier list ranks these by how much they are worth your time. Do not import Steam How to Fish tables (Spider Crab, Empty Beer Can, Bing Bong). Wrong game.

After the landing

A landed fish is still a fight. Swap to a gun or fists before it knocks you off the pier. Then:

1. Confirm it is not a named trophy. If it is, bag it and walk to NPCs. See bosses.
2. Cook if a station is up. See money.
3. Sell commons in bulk. First $100 and First $1000 sit on this habit.
4. Recast with the same lure until the pool goes quiet, then move along the shore.

Pets, if you have one, should not block the landing tile. A second pet slot exists as a gamepass that was off-sale in the September catalog snapshot; do not plan a catch route around walking two pets yet.

Missed bites and empty water

Empty water usually means the wrong lure, a dry aim, or a server that just had a Kraken pile. Change one variable at a time. If three casts fail, walk ten steps. If a whole minute fails, open the weekly tracker in case a patch emptied a spawn while they shuffle islands.

Scripts that auto-cast exist for other fishing games. Dedicated How to Really Fish listings were not verified on the public boards we checked. Using a random auto-fish GUI is a ban risk — read scripts and safety before you even search.
