How to Fight in How to Really Fish
The catch is not the kill. Finish the creature without eating the dock.
How to Really Fish is a gun game that pretends to be a fishing trip. Once the body is on the planks, how to catch is over and this page starts. Read controls if Left Click is still casting while a shark is chewing your hat.
Swap, then shoot
Holster the rod. Equip a melee tool or a gun. Fists work on shrimp. Fists on a shark are how you meet Sleeping with the Fishes (a badge most players own because death is common). The studio sells weapons for cash and two forever Robux passes:
- Dual Uzis [Forever] — 259 Robux. Full-auto spray for dock chaos and Kraken adds.
- Golden Rod [Forever] — 399 Robux. This is not a gun. It does not help the fight. It only goldens ordinary fish after you already won.
Cash shotguns and pistols are enough for early sharks. Save a sniper or long rifle for the Giant Whale’s 2500 HP bar. Rankings live on the weapon tier list.
Positioning on a tiny dock
Stand with your back to a wall or house, not to open ocean. A knockback into water is a wipe even if the fish is at 1 HP. The red dock house in the whale screenshot is useful cover. The green grid islands have no cover — strafe in a circle and do not stand in the landing tile.
If a friend is co-op with you, split jobs: one player keeps the rod for the next hook, one player is full-time guns. Two people recasting during a whale fight is how the HP bar regenerates in your head even if it does not in the files.
Hip-fire versus ADS
Right Click is the alt-fire / aim bind on PC. Hip-fire the shotgun at clawed dock fish. ADS the sniper at whale heads. The floating x67 in official art is a damage popup, not a combo you must farm, but landing shots on a weak point clearly pays. Do not 360-no-scope because a Steam How to Fish video told you to. That game’s multiplier table is not this HUD.
Mobile players should park the joystick, then mash the fire button. Walking while firing on touch is how shots go into the sky.
Boss HP reality
- Kraken — early, high clear rate. Bring any gun you have already tested on a shark.
- Giant Whale — 2500 HP shown in live art. Treat it as a raid-sized dock fight. Ammo, heals, and a second player matter.
- Legend / myth creatures — rare badges. If you hook one by accident, do not experiment with fists.
Full bait and trophy notes are on bosses. This page is only the gun handling.
Healing and cooking mid-fight
Camp Cook exists, which means cooked fish is a real item. If a cook station is within a sprint, a teammate can cook while you shoot. Eating during a whale fight is better than a heroic death. The money guide explains why you still sell extras after you are full.
Pets are walking loot magnets and also hitboxes. Park them off the landing tile. The second pet slot pass is not required for combat.
Deaths you can avoid
- Reloading with your back to the sea.
- Casting again because the fish “looks dead” and it is not.
- Opening the Codes field during a fight.
- Equipping Golden Rod thinking it is a weapon.
- Bringing Dual Uzis ammo habits to a sniper fight and standing still.
If you die, you respawn. Recover dropped trophies before they sink. Weekly patches can change drop persistence — see beta notes.
Practice loop
Spend ten minutes shooting ordinary dock fish before you buy a boss lure. The beginner guide already told you to do this; this page is why. Aim, knockback, and swap speed are muscle memory. Once they are boring, you are allowed to look at the whale.
Fighting feeds money because dead fish sell and live fish do not. If a creature is still flopping, you do not have cash yet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for How to Really Fish on Roblox.
Is Golden Rod a weapon?
No. It is a rod pass that goldens ordinary fish for 2x sell. Bring a real gun to the fight.
When do I buy Dual Uzis?
After a cash shotgun feels too slow on Kraken adds, and only if you are willing to spend 259 Robux. See the weapon list.
Can I fist-fight the whale?
You can try. 2500 HP says you should not. Use a long gun and co-op if possible.
Why do I keep falling in the water?
Knockback. Fight with a wall behind you, not the ocean.
