Fish Tier List

Creatures in How to Really Fish range from dock snacks to a 2500 HP whale. This list ranks them by session value: cash after cooking, trophy importance, and how likely they are to throw you in the sea. It is not a pokedex. Crazy Fishing Friends has not shipped a public bestiary, so we only rank what badges and official art confirm. Use it with how to catch and bosses.

S tier

Giant Whale. 2500 HP in official art. Slow money if you are undergeared, enormous trophy if you are not. Bring a sniper from the weapon list and a friend from co-op. Keep the drop.

Legend / myth catches. Stuff of Legends (~2.3%) and Myth Confirmed (~0.9%) are rare badges. If it has a title that looks like a boss, it is S to keep and D to vendor. Do not recast a boss lure all night chasing these; they are lottery rolls, not a farm route.

A tier

Kraken. Early, high clear rate (~93% Kraken Slayer), teaches the boss loop. A-tier because every account should do it, not because it is the hardest. Keep the distinctive piece, sell the rest.

Cooked commons (as a stack). Individual shrimp are C. A backpack of cooked commons is A because that is how First $1000 actually happens. See money.

B tier

Sharks. Gallery shots show grey and blue sharks taking shotgun fire. Good cash, real knockback, not a story trophy unless an NPC says so. Practice targets for how to fight.

Clawed orange dock fish. Hostile catch. Pays, hits, looks spectacular in screenshots. Sell or cook after it is dead.

C tier

Raw starter fish. Fine for First Catch. Stop eating them raw if a cook station exists. Recasting these after you own a mid lure is how wallets stall under First $1000 (~21%).

D tier

Anything you vendor that had a unique name. The fish was S until you sold it. Now you are stuck. This rank is a behavior, not a species.

Steam How to Fish creatures you are trying to catch here. They are not this pool. Do not import that game’s 49-name list, beer-can bait, or lighthouse island chain.

Badge-to-creature map

BadgeRead it as
First CatchYou hooked any C or B
Getting the Hang of It (~76%)You repeated the loop, not a new species
Kraken SlayerYou finished the A-tier early boss
Camp Cook (~70%)You processed a sellable creature
Stuff of Legends / Myth ConfirmedYou found an S rare
Master Angler (~0.3%)Time, not a single fish
Seasoned Angler (~9%)Mid grind, still not a whale trophy
Sleeping with the Fishes (~73%)A live B or S threw you in

Farming notes

Cast where the camera sees water, not where a YouTuber stood last week. 50-player servers deplete a dock. Walk. If a pool feels empty after a weekly patch, the spawn table moved with an island tease — confirm on beta notes.

Golden Rod goldens ordinary B and C fish for 2x. It will not golden the whale. Do not recast a boss lure expecting gold skins. It also does not change rarity, catch chance, or weight, so it will not mint Myth Confirmed.

Match the lure to the job using lures. A starter lure on a whale dock is a C-tier plan. A boss lure with fists is a D-tier plan. The creature rank only pays if the landing tile is clear and a gun is already in your hotbar.

Solo should live on cooked B-tier sharks until the whale budget is real. Co-op can take S-tier earlier if someone is assigned to bag trophies.

When in doubt, keep it until an NPC yawns at it. You can always sell in thirty seconds. You cannot un-sell a kraken beak.
